Logan City Speed – 2025 Committee Update

A Year of Growth, Progress & Community

As we wrap up another incredible year at Logan City Speed, we’re proud to share our annual Committee Update, reflecting the achievements, development, and momentum that shaped 2025. This year has been defined by growth at every level—from beginners discovering the sport for the first time, to seasoned athletes representing Australia on the world stage. Our club is stronger, more united, and more focused than ever.

This update brings together reports from the President, Secretary, and Treasurer, capturing the full picture of what our members, volunteers, and coaches have accomplished this season.

President’s Report – Christopher Booth

Another year has passed in the world of speed skating at Logan City Speed—and what a year it has been. Our club continues to expand, particularly among juniors and new skaters, while maintaining a strong group of high-level athletes competing at State, National, and International levels. While our elite competitors remain steady, the biggest signs of future success can be seen in the juniors rising through our programs.

Building Our Junior Pathway

Our Saturday junior sessions have been a standout, with rising participation and rapid skill development. Parents have watched their children grow not only in their skating ability, but in confidence, stamina, and discipline. This year, we refined our junior pathway:

Saturday → Sunday → Thursday → Competitive Racing

This gives every child a clear and achievable direction, supporting development at their own pace.

Equipment can be a major hurdle for new families, and we encourage exploring second-hand gear. Please stay in touch—we have connections that may help make first-time setups more affordable.

Competitive Skaters – Heart of the Club

Whether young or older, our competitive skaters embody the spirit of Logan City Speed. We continue to reinforce an important message:

“We train to race – we do not race at training.”

Training is about improving, building consistency, and working together—never about out-sprinting teammates. We win and improve as a team.

Acknowledging Parents & Coaches

To all parents: thank you. Your commitment, patience, and support are vital in helping young athletes thrive. We know the journey isn’t always easy, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

To our coaches: your dedication, time, and effort are the backbone of this club. Balancing your own training, family, and work commitments while giving so much to others is never taken for granted. One of our goals moving forward is to better share the coaching load so no one carries too much on their shoulders.

A Strong Future Ahead

A club is only as strong as its committee. We thank every volunteer who stepped forward this year, and we encourage anyone interested to join—big role or small, every contribution helps.

Here’s to another year of teamwork, momentum, and progress.

Secretary’s Report – Chris Bowling

2025 has been a year filled with growth, opportunity, and incredible progress for Logan City Speed. As we look back, it’s clear that our club is strengthening its identity, raising its standards, and building a community we can all be proud of.

Showcasing Who We Are

One of the highlights this year was the production of our new club videos. These showcased the energy, culture, and spirit of Logan City Speed—helping new families and the broader community see what makes our club so special.

Expanding Training Opportunities

We worked to secure additional rink time, giving skaters more opportunities to develop skills, gain confidence, and prepare for competition.

Welcoming International & Interstate Athletes

  • · This year, we were privileged to host a variety of international and interstate skaters. Their presence gave our athletes invaluable exposure to new racing styles and higher levels of competition. Visiting teams & Skaters—including Sk8 House for races, French National team member, A Powerslide team skater from Taiwan joined our sessions, creating a vibrant, collaborative training environment.

These experiences elevated the sport at our club and strengthened our culture. As someone said recently:

“When you’re kicking a few goals and doing good things, other good things happen.”

This year proved exactly that.

Development Day

After several years in planning, Development Day made its long-awaited arrival  Supported by a Skate QLD grant, we transformed the idea into a fully-fledged Queensland Development Day, Run by Skate QLD welcoming skaters from clubs across all the clubs. The feedback was positive, and the event highlighted what can be achieved through vision, teamwork, and persistence.

Simulation Race Series Growth

Our Simulation Race Series expanded significantly—moving from 4–6 sessions a year to monthly racing opportunities. This consistent race exposure is becoming a cornerstone in developing our younger skaters and preparing them for progression.

Strong Training Attendance

Attendance remained strong throughout the year, reinforcing our push to secure additional indoor training options. Availability can be challenging, but we will continue to update families as early as possible and work to create more opportunities.

World Championship Representation

A huge highlight of 2025 was seeing four of our club members represent Australia at the World Championships—our second consecutive year achieving this. This success is built on more than six years of planning, dedication, and belief in our long-term development pathway.

Every member shares in this achievement. We should all be proud.
