🎙️ Check Out the Recent Interview LCS Coach, Kurt Stevens, Did with BayFM Radio 100.3!

Last week, our very own Coach Kurt Stevens hit the airwaves with BayFM to share his incredible journey through the world of speed skating. The interview was a deep dive into everything skating — from Kurt’s early days of just “wanting to go fast” to his inspiring path as a coach and leader at Logan City Speed.

Kurt spoke about how his return to the sport came from a challenge many parents face: struggling to find the right sport for his kids. Having been a passionate skater himself years earlier, he reconnected with speed skating as a way to give his kids something different — a sport with a fun, supportive, and close-knit community. What started as an opportunity for his children quickly reignited his own love for the sport, and today, his kids are still very much enjoying skating and thriving in this unique environment. That spark is what drives Kurt to help other families find that same sense of belonging, resilience, and growth.

Listeners also got a behind-the-scenes look at:

  • The inspiration behind Kurt creating a sponsored team to help grow the next generation of skaters

  • And of course, his favourite song to skate to (which BayFM played live on air!)

  •

But Kurt’s story isn’t just about the past — it’s about building the future. Logan City Speed is leading projects to help grow the sport in our community, including plans for a world-class banked track right here in Logan in partnership with Logan City Council. Unfortunately, progress has been slowed by federal government red tape, but the dream is alive, and our club is working hard to make it a reality.

BayFM also asked where people could go if they wanted to give skating a try. Kurt had the perfect answer: right here at Skate Paradise, our home track, where the floor is smooth, the community is buzzing, and new skaters are always welcome.

Now we’d love to see BayFM take us up on that invite… what do you say, team BayFM? Come down to Skate Paradise, strap on a pair of skates, and feel the rush for yourselves. We promise a warm welcome — and maybe even a few racing tips from Coach Kurt!

A huge thank you to BayFM for shining a spotlight on speed skating and giving Kurt the chance to share his passion for the sport and this amazing community. If you’re curious to see what all the buzz is about, come skate with us — whether you’re chasing speed or just looking for a new adventure, we’d love to have you!
