We're thrilled to share some exciting news with our Logan City Speed family — the club has been awarded $23,925 from the Queensland Government through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).
This is a significant milestone for our club, and one that's been a real team effort to achieve. It also marks the second time we've applied for this equipment — and after the work that's gone into getting here, we couldn't be more proud to see it across the line.
How It Came Together
This grant didn't happen by accident. Our committee sat down with our coaches to talk honestly about where the club is at and what we needed to keep moving forward. Together we worked through a few ideas — looking at our current gear, identifying the gaps, and asking what would genuinely make a difference to the way we train, develop, and look after our skaters.
What came out of those conversations was a clear, shared vision: bring our equipment up to date, lift our standard of safety, and remove the barriers that can stop families and young skaters from getting involved in the sport we love.
Why This Gear, and Why It Matters
Every item we applied for was chosen with our members in mind.
Access to club-owned beginner skates will reduce financial barriers for families and allow children to take part in our learn-to-speed-skate and training programs using correctly fitted, appropriate equipment. That means safer skill development, growing confidence, and more kids staying in the sport for the long run.
The essential training equipment — agility poles, resistance bands, training cones, wheeled skate position boards, and more — will give our coaches the tools to deliver structured, age-appropriate sessions that build technique, spatial awareness, and injury prevention across all our youth programs.
And just as importantly, our investment in a robust first aid kit and a defibrillator will significantly improve the club's emergency preparedness. This ensures a higher standard of care and safety during training and club activities — for our young participants, our volunteers, and our families.
Taken together, this project will strengthen the delivery of safe, inclusive programs for children and young people taking part in inline speed skating right here in the Logan community. It will enhance youth participation, improve safety outcomes, and support the long-term sustainability of Logan City Speed as a community-based sporting organisation.
What Our Committee and Coaches Are Saying
We've been chatting with our committee and coaches to get their thoughts on what this achievement means for the club — and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There's a real sense of pride in what we've built together, and genuine excitement about being able to offer our skaters the gear and support they deserve. This is the kind of milestone that reminds everyone why they put in the hours, on and off the track.
Serving Logan and Beyond
Logan City Speed primarily serves the Logan City local government area, including suburbs such as Logan Central, Meadowbrook, Browns Plains, Beenleigh, and Yarrabilba. We also welcome participants who travel from surrounding areas across Brisbane's south and south-west, including Forest Lake and Inala, with growing interest from neighbouring communities such as Ipswich, Redlands, and the northern Gold Coast.
Our programs are delivered within the Logan region, and our portable club equipment is what makes safe, inclusive participation possible for families right across South East Queensland.
What's Next
This is the second time we've pursued this equipment, and now that it's here, we genuinely can't wait to see what's next for the club. New gear, safer programs, more kids on skates, and a stronger foundation for everything we want to achieve in the seasons ahead — the future is looking fast.
A huge thank you to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund — Queensland's largest one-off community grants program — for backing grassroots sport and investing in our community. We can't wait to put it to work.
