The countdown is on! Logan City Speed Skating is gearing up for one of the biggest international events of the year — the Namwon Open Korea Championship! This exciting competition, packed with fierce global competitors, is a great opportunity for our athletes to test their skills and push their limits. We’re sending four of our top skaters to represent our club and take on the best in the world!
The Squad:
Senior Men: Rob Cook – One experienced skater ready to showcase years of training and dedication.
Junior Men: Raiden Dolder & Emmanuel Calpakos– Two promising young athletes with the hunger to compete and make their mark.
Junior Lady: Zoe Martin – A rising star with fierce ambition, ready to prove herself on the international stage.
The Competition: What They’ll Be Up Against
The Namwon Open draws elite competitors from around the world, including top athletes from South Korea, China, Japan, and beyond. Our skaters will face stiff competition in both the track and road events, where the pace will be blistering. Whether it’s speed sprints or long-distance endurance, these athletes are up against the best of the best. The technical demands of the course and the strategic tactics of the international competitors will challenge every aspect of their game.
The Senior Men’s category will feature seasoned veterans who know the ins and outs of high-pressure races, while the Junior Men will square off against fellow up-and-coming speed skaters eager to show their potential. As for our Junior Lady, she’ll be competing alongside a competitive group of young women from across Asia, looking to make a name for themselves in the sport.
What’s Ahead: The Thrills and Challenges
While the competition is tough, it’s all about growth and development. This event isn’t just about the medals (though we’d love to see them come home with some!). Our athletes are looking to:
Push their limits: The Namwon Open will test their speed, endurance, and technical skills. The intensity of this event will serve as a valuable learning experience, no matter the outcome.
Sharpen their race tactics: Racing against different international competitors will expose our skaters to new strategies and approaches. It’s an incredible opportunity to learn how to handle competitive pressure and navigate challenging situations.
Represent their club: Our athletes carry the pride of Logan City Speed Skating on their shoulders. This event is about showing the world what we’ve been working towards and making a statement on the international stage.
What They’re Looking to Take Away
Competing at such a high level is about growth, not just winning. While they’re all determined to bring home their best performances, here’s what our skaters are truly aiming for:
Experience: This is the kind of competition that only comes around once in a while. Our skaters are looking to absorb every moment, from the start line to the finish.
Confidence: Getting out there and competing on the world stage will give them a huge boost in confidence, not only in their skating but also in their ability to take on any challenge that comes their way.
Personal milestones: Whether it’s breaking a personal best or mastering a race technique, each skater has individual goals they’re striving for. The Namwon Open will give them the perfect opportunity to set new personal records.
What’s Next?
After months of training, preparation, and anticipation, our athletes are ready to make a statement at the Namwon Open Korea Championship. We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way, and we know they’ll represent Logan City Speed Skating with all the passion, skill, and determination that they embody.
This competition will mark an important milestone in their skating journeys. The Namwon Open isn’t just about racing — it’s about pushing boundaries, learning, and growing. We can’t wait to see what our athletes will achieve, and we’re so proud to have them representing us on the world stage.
Go get them, team! 🏅💨
